There were a few YouTube covers of songs (e.g. ‘Rhiannon’ by Alice Kristiansen & Jessie Marie Villa, and also ‘Cherry Wine’ by Patricia Lalor) and other tracks like ‘Scrawny’ by the Wallows that just missed out this week; you can check em out nonetheless. The number 3 this week was recently released by Tay-Tay and, although I was doubtful at first, it’s pretty good for a pop song. The number 2, which just missed out last week, is another of Cavetown’s absolute BANGERS. It’s one of the songs that starts off quiet-ish and then builds up as it goes on – a perfect example of this is with a few Mumford and Sons tracks (like ‘Broken Crown’, ‘Dust Bowl Dance’ and ‘White Blank Page’… all of which had the title of being my favourite song – perhaps there’s a pattern). The number 1 I discovered ages ago but recently came across it again. This is a really sad song and, along with the 13 Reasons Why clips in the YouTube video (the video I use to listen to the song), it reaches a whole new level of emotion; if it was on iTunes I’d be playing it on my iPod non-stop.

Although this is a late post for last week’s top 3, I’ve made sure I’ve kept all the tracks strictly to songs I heard up until Saturday the 27th… trust meh. This meant that I couldn’t include ‘Lemon Boy’ by Cavetown due to the fact I only just started to listen/like it on Saturday… but that probably means it’ll be on the next top 3 to be honest. Nevertheless, number 3 for this week was a song my brother played in the car (so I take none of the credit) and it builds a sad-ish story of a couple’s relationship – like Jamie Lawson’s ‘I wasn’t expecting that’ but with a duet. Also, the atmosphere of the song is kinda a mix between a John Lewis Christmas advert song and some sort of Pixar movie’s soundtrack; it’s really good. Number 2 for this week was released by Alec earlier in the week and sounds really nice even if it’s just a demo; to me it sounds slightly more ‘pop’-y than other songs of his. The number 1 needs no explanation as I’ve already made a ‘Song Analysis’ post for it – because it’s just that good!

There were a lot of songs to choose from this week with the likes of ‘Idle Town’ by Conan Gray and ‘Welcome To Wonderland’ by Anson Seabra just missing out. One of these songs could have made it into the number 3 spot if it wasn’t for Declan Mckenna releasing yet another banger the other day. This was a song made for the Moominvalley (film) soundtrack – at first this would seem weird as it doesn’t sound like the happiest of songs. The number 2 for this week was unlucky to miss out last week (due to the fact I only started to listen to it right after I posted last week’s top 3) but its gained its rightful place this time round because of it being so good – it feels like a half vintage and half modern song. I discovered the number one for this week through a YouTube recommendation of the acoustic version (featuring Chloe Moriondo – another good artist who you should check out). The acoustic version, I’d say, is equally as good as the official audio with slight differences… for example, the actual audio adds a voice-changing-thing to make Robbie’s (the artist’s) voice sound like a bug-child thing – which is really cool and adds to the atmosphere of the song.

All recently discovered songs with the exception of the Billie Eilish track found last week – only appreciated recently, as the lyrics are a combination of references from all the other songs in her newly released album ‘WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?’ (which meant I could only properly understand it after I’d listened to all the other songs). Following the purchase of ‘Mylo Xyloto’, I took a liking to the Coldplay song for it’s storytelling and sad vibes. The number one for this week is a more chilled song recommended by ye olde YouTube which is very relaxing to listen to.
